Welcome to Your Newborn Photography Session!

Thank you for choosing me to capture these precious early moments of your baby’s life. My goal is to create timeless, soft, and natural images that reflect the beauty of your little one and your growing family. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable session, here’s a simple guide to help you prepare.

Before Your Session

1. When to Schedule

Contact me as soon as you know you’ll be induced or a c-section date is scheduled. We will choose a date between 5-12 days old.  We want mom’s milk to have come in (If breastfeeding) but try to still schedule in those tiny days and before baby acne begins.

2. What to Wear

Avoid bold patterns, logos, and dark colors to maintain the airy, delicate style of your session.

I recommend soft, neutral tones and simple, timeless outfits to keep the focus on your baby.

Here are some tips:

• Moms: Soft dresses or neutral tops with flowy fabrics work beautifully. Save yourself some stress and borrow from the client closet.  You can take as much time as you needing trying on outfits when you arrive.

• Dads: A simple, fitted t-shirt or Henley in white, beige, or soft gray pairs well.

• Siblings: Neutral-colored outfits in similar tones to parents for a cohesive look.

*I have everything in the client closet except pants for men’s pants and shoes.

Shoes: plan to go barefoot or soft simple shoes.  Tan ballet slippers , minimalist sandals , thin profile sneakers in white, tan or gray (Think converse, Hey Dudes) light color loafers or Sperry type shoes.

3. Prepping Baby

• Keep baby awake for 30-60 minutes before your session (a bath, gentle playtime, or undressing them can help).

• Feed baby right before you leave or as soon as you arrive at the studio to ensure a full tummy and a sleepy baby.

• Dress baby in a loose zip-up or button-up sleeper (avoid anything that needs to go over the head). No socks, mittens, or tight diapers to prevent marks on their skin.

At the Studio

1. The Session Flow

• The studio will be warm to keep your baby comfortable. Please dress in light layers.

• Family and sibling shots will be taken at the beginning or end, depending on baby’s mood.

If siblings are in the session, we may try to get their images at the beginning so dad, a grandparent or babysitter can take them for a walk to the playground or for up the street for ice cream.

2. What to Expect

• Newborn sessions typically last 1.5 to 2 hours to allow time for feeding, soothing, and cuddling.

• Babies may need breaks, and that’s completely normal. I follow their lead to keep the experience calm and stress-free.

Extra Tips

• Bring a pacifier, even if your baby doesn’t use one—it can be a big help for soothing.

• If bottle-feeding, bring extra milk in case baby gets hungrier than usual.

• Relax and enjoy! Babies can sense stress, so take a deep breath and trust the process.

I can’t wait to capture these precious moments for you! If you have any questions before your session, feel free to reach out.
